Name?

Luke McGivney

Why or how did you get into lifting?

I remember as a kid watching my dad train in the garage when he was competing, and I decided to give training a go myself when I was about 16 or 17 years old and I loved it.

Where do you currently train?

In Boyneside Gym in Drogheda or at home in the garage.

What music do you listen to while you train?

Whatever mad kind of music is on in the gym.

Who do you currently train with/coached by?

I train with my dad, and he gives me advice on my training, and I like to structure my program using the training methods he taught me.

What is your favourite pre or post training/recovery tip?

Before training I like to be in the right frame of mind, focused and ready to train with intent. After training I like to get good food into me, relax and reflect on the training session and think on what went well and what I can improve on next time and then get a good night’s sleep.

What is your favourite lift and why?

I like all three lifts as each one is a great expression of strength on its own, but it takes being strong and proficient in all three lifts to be a good powerlifter.

What is your favourite memory from a competition?

Meeting and talking to new people as well as hitting pbs on the platform.

What other sports or interests are you involved in? What are you doing when you’re not lifting?

I like to get outside for a walk every day for the benefits of cardio. I also enjoy music and playing guitar.

Who is your favourite Powerlifter (Leave blank if you choose number 1 )

1. Niall Reddan
