Name?
Sean Hough
Why or how did you get into lifting?
I started young, around 13 or 14 years old. I had seen World’s Strongest Man 2009 on TV, and I remember being in awe at Mariusz Pudzianowski. This was my initial inspiration, and before long I was giving all my free time reading articles on bodybuilding.com, T-Nation, Elite FTS etc, trying to figure out how I could get as big and strong as him (still trying to figure that out to this day!). Long story short, I then bought a set of weights, built my own power rack from timber, began to train for hours on end every evening after school and eat oppressive amounts of food! I went on like that for the rest of my years in school before eventually doing my first powerlifting meet at 18 years old, and so the obsession began!
What music do you listen to while you train?
I’m a huge metal fan! My go-to training music would be Five Finger Death Punch, Sabaton, Hatebreed and Slipknot.
Where do you currently train?
I do most of my training in my home gym these days.
Who do you currently train with/coached by?
I’m coached by myself and I train by myself, but I still love to get in a session with the Kings/PWPLC lads when I can!
What is your favourite pre or post training/recovery tip?
Lots of food! I also love to go for an hours nap after training when I can!
What is your favourite lift and why?
The deadlift because I can unleash all my aggression and go incredibly insane!
What is your favourite memory from a competition?
Having done more than 20 meets over the last nearly 9 years, it’s hard to choose. One memory that does stand out for me is my first GPC worlds, which was Trutnov in 2017. I didn’t perform particularly well, but it was my first international meet and was just a great week overall! I think my favourite memories though have to be any of the meets I did in PWPLC. We had a crew unlike any other down there and I don’t think the atmosphere and intensity at those meets will ever be replicated!
What other sports or interests are you involved in? What are you doing when you’re not lifting?
I’m a massive fan of all strength sports – obviously powerlifting but also strongman and arm-wrestling. Aside from that, I’m a huge nerd for any sort of fantasy, especially Lord of the Rings and the Soulsborn and Elder Scrolls games.
Who is your favourite Powerlifter (Leave blank if you choose number 1 )
