Date: October 16, 2026
Location: Kings Gym, Limerick
The iron rang out in Limerick recently — not just with the sound of heavy lifts, but with the heartbeat of a community coming together for something truly meaningful. The annual Push/Pull Competition took centre stage at Kings Gym, bringing powerlifters, supporters, and volunteers from across the region together in a fantastic display of strength, sportsmanship, and generosity — all in aid of the Irish Cancer Society.
A Day of Strength and Solidarity
This year’s competition was a showcase of grit and determination, with athletes stepping up to test their limits in the bench press and deadlift — the two pillars of the Push/Pull format. From seasoned competitors hitting impressive numbers to first-timers bravely taking their place on the platform, every lift carried extra weight: it was all for a cause that touches so many families across Ireland.
The energy in the room was electric — cheers echoing with every rep, encouragement flowing between rivals, and a genuine sense of camaraderie that defines what makes our powerlifting community so special. This wasn’t just about personal bests; it was about lifting each other up, literally and figuratively.
And the numbers speak for themselves: €1,500 was raised on the day for the Irish Cancer Society — funds that will go directly toward life-changing support, research, and care for those affected by cancer.
A Special Thank You
None of this would have been possible without the incredible effort of one person in particular. We want to extend our warmest gratitude to Niall Redden, whose vision and hard work made this event such a resounding success. Thank you, Niall, for hosting an amazing competition — for the flawless organisation, the welcoming atmosphere, and for opening Kings Gym as the perfect venue for this special day. You set a standard that every event should aim for.
Of course, an event is nothing without its people — and this one was packed with the best. To every competitor who laced up their shoes and gave it their all: you were the heart of the day. To every spectator who came along to cheer, donate, and lend their support: your presence made all the difference. And to every volunteer who helped set up, judge, keep score, serve refreshments, or step in wherever needed: we could not have done this without you.
Every single person who turned out played a part in that €1,500 total. Be proud — you’ve made a real impact.

Until Next Year
Events like this remind us that powerlifting is more than just a sport — it’s a community that cares. We lift heavy, but we lift together, and when we do, we can move mountains.
Huge congratulations and heartfelt thanks once more to Niall Redden, Kings Gym, every competitor, volunteer, and supporter. What a day. What a team. Here’s to even bigger lifts and even greater generosity at next year’s competition!
